Spend two weeks discovering all that makes South Africa one of the world’s most diverse and colourful destinations. Take in natural sights such as Blyde River Canyon, explore the historic lands of the Zulus and Swazis, follow the magnificent South African coastline, and immerse yourself in the beauty, wine, and culture of the Cape. On this tour, a maximum of 40 guests are escorted by a local professional tourist guide. All departures are guaranteed with a minimum of 2 guests. Transportation is in air-conditioned luxury vehicles and tours are only conducted in English.

This 15-day South Africa trip takes you from Johannesburg to Cape Town, exploring the best of the country in all its diversity.

Take a night in Johannesburg to shake off any jetlag, meet your fellow travellers, and receive a tour briefing before leaving for the lush Lowveld. You’ll follow the Panorama Route to catch the view over Blyde River Canyon from God’s Window. This is a region filled with interesting geographical features formed by the canyon’s waterways. Your journey through natural South Africa continues the following day in Kruger National Park, arguably the country’s most famous wildlife region. Keep an eye out for the ‘Big 5’ – lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants, and buffalo – along with other animals on your morning game drive, before your guide explores more of the park with you later in the day.

Strike another great Southern African country off your list the following day as you explore Swaziland. This independent kingdom is the smallest country in the Southern Hemisphere, preserving Swazi culture and the region’s wildlife with equal enthusiasm. Then, from Swaziland to Zululand, return to South Africa and learn about the unique cultural balance that has shaped this region. Enjoy an open vehicle safari in Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park on your own account if you wish. You may also opt for a cruise from St Lucia, a popular coastal destination among South Africans. The surrounding wetland is home to hippos, crocodiles, and over 360 bird species. Spend the night in the popular seaside city of Durban.

Head for the Southern Drakensberg Mountains, a region of South Africa blessed with immense waterfalls, serene lakes and soaring rocky peaks. The afternoon is yours to explore this magnificent region as you wish, hiking, horseback riding, or fishing, for example. At extra cost, you may take an excursion into the tiny kingdom of Lesotho. There’s also a rich human heritage in the Drakensbergs, with cave art by the San/Bushman people dating back at least 4000 years. No matter your interest, there’s plenty to explore.

Journey to the Eastern Cape, home to the birthplace of Nelson Mandela, and the glorious beaches that line the way to Port Elizabeth. You’ll eventually reach the Garden Route, one of the most beautiful coastal regions in the world…not to mention the world’s feather capital. After following this incredible coast for 50 miles or so you will reach Oudtshoorn, renowned for its ostrich farms, one of which you’ll visit for a first-hand glimpse at this thriving industry. This is also home to the Cango Caves, which you can walk or crawl through, depending on your appetite for adventure!

Arrive at last in Cape Town, The Mother City widely considered to be among the world’s most beautiful. The heartbeat of culture and history in the Western Cape, Cape Town invites you to explore its stories with a dinner theatre experience on your first night. Afterwards, explore the city as you will. You may take a full day Peninsula Tour, which takes you some of the more far flung sights such as Boulders Beach and the Cape Point Nature Reserve. Wine lovers may prefer to head into the Winelands to sample South Africa’s famous bold reds and sweet whites right at the source. There are also plenty of activities available in Cape Town proper, such as a trip to the top of Table Mountain, a visit to the former political prison of Robben Island, or the Walk to Freedom, an informative tour telling the stories of, and beyond Apartheid.

This morning after breakfast, you will leave for Mpumalanga, dropping several hundred feet into the lush subtropical region of the Lowveld. Your travels take you along the circular Panorama Route via Graskop, visiting the view sites of the Blyde River Canyon, one of the natural wonders of Africa. This canyon is the third largest in the world, after the Grand Canyon in the US and the Fish River Canyon in Namibia. God’s Window is undoubtedly the Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve’s most spectacular viewpoint, with astonishing views over South Africa’s lowveld. At God’s Window, majestic cliffs plunge down 700m and, on a clear day, you’ll be able to see over the famous Kruger National Park towards the Lebombo Mountains. Last stop for the day before heading to Hazyview is at the Bourke’s Luck Potholes. This natural water feature marks the beginning of the Blyde River Canyon. Through countless eons the swirling whirlpools which occur as the Treur River plunges into the Blyde River caused waterborne sand and rock to grind huge, cylindrical potholes into the bedrock of the river. The Potholes were named after a gold digger, Tom Burke, who staked a claim nearby. Although his claim did not produce a single ounce of gold, he correctly predicted that large gold deposits would be found in the area.

One of the world’s most illustrious monuments, the Palace of Versailles was the official residence of the Kings of France Louis XIV, Louis XV and Louis XVI and their courts from 1682 until the French Revolution. Your guide will help you to experience everything about what life was like in the Palace of Versailles, the symbol of the power of the French monarchy. Then enjoy some free time strolling through the palace’s stunning grounds and formal gardens.

The Palace of Versailles covers an area of over 721,000 square feet and has more than 700 rooms. Follow your guide straight to the front of the line to visit the most beautiful rooms inside the palace: the King’s Grand Apartments, with seven rooms dedicated to different gods, and the Queen’s Grand Apartments, mirroring those of the king, which include the Coronation Room and the Queen’s Bedroom, once occupied by Marie Antoinette, among others. Also, marvel at the sparkling Hall of Mirrors of Versailles, a large reception room in which to see and be seen, dreamt up by the celebrated architect, Jules Hardouin-Mansart. It was also the setting for sumptuous receptions and royal wedding balls.

Your tour will be followed by an opportunity to discover the palace’s gardens, the second part of your visit. In 1661, Louis XIV commissioned the landscape architect André Le Notre to lay out the grounds and gardens, something that was just as important as the construction of the palace itself as far as the king was concerned. 10 Travel Tips For International Travel

10 Travel Tips For International Travel

There is nothing more invigorating than traveling to a new place, experiencing new foods, cultures, seeing new sights and more. Whether you are traveling for business or pleasure, there are a few things you can do to make your journey easier and more enjoyable.

Here are 10 international travel tips:

Hotel business cards. One of the first things you should do when arriving at a hotel overseas is take a business card from the front desk. If you ever get lost, you have the name and address of the hotel in the local language. Although many populations around the world speak English, having something to show local and taxi drivers is an extra bit of insurance.

The six-month passport rule. This is an important tip. The expiration date on your passport can be a bit deceiving. The U.S. lets you use your passport up to the date inside the cover. However, several countries will deny travelers entry if the passport expires in less than six months. Why is this? In case you get stuck overseas longer than planned, that country wants to ensure that you have a valid passport to eventually travel back to the United States. The best way to ensure smooth travel and to avoid any problems, is to always make sure you renew your passport about nine months prior to the expiration date. You can always ask a Travel Team Agent at 1-800-788-0829 for more information about this.

Getting cash. When you need to get cash, the best way is usually an ATM. Keep in mind that many U.S. banks charge fees for using an ATM that is out of network. You could take a large amount out at once, but it is not smart to carry a large amount of local currency around, or have a lot of cash left over at the end of your trip. Look into accounts thru places such as Charles Schwab and Fidelity. Both offer checking accounts that often have no minimum balance requirements and reimburse you for all ATM fees.

Credit cards. Did you know the best exchange rates can be found using your credit card? Bear in mind that many credit cards will add on a foreign transaction fee. It’s a pointless fee that no traveler should ever pay. Look into cards that do not add on such a fee like The Chase Sapphire Preferred card and Platinum American Express. Important TIP: Never have a hotel or restaurant convert a charge into dollars first. It’s a bad deal.

Fraud alerts. Notify your bank and credit card company’s fraud department of what countries you will be visiting and on what dates. This way, they won’t think your card is stolen and shut it off just when you need it the most.

Medicine. It is a good idea to carry Advil, NyQuil, Imodium A-D, Tums, and a handful of other key medications with you when you travel. If you’re heading to third-world countries, stocking up on the right drugs is even more important. You should also fill your prescriptions in advance and bring it with them just in case.

Travel alerts. Print out the contact information and address of the local embassy. It’s a good idea to check out The State Department’s travel warnings and alerts for anywhere you are traveling. If you have questions, ask a Travel Team Agent at 1-800-788-0829 for more information.

Data roaming. Set up your cell phone to avoid international data roaming. Many business travelers have an international calling and data plan. But infrequent travelers don’t. The biggest costs can come from transmitting data overseas. Set up your plan to turn off data roaming, or look into a plan that includes using your phone overseas.

Google Maps. If you don’t add a data plan to your phone while abroad, you can still use the Wi-Fi in your hotel to plot out a few routes you plan to walk that day. Then take a screenshot of those maps. You can later find the photo, zoom in, and follow the path. If you set up your data plan to include using data overseas, you can use Google Maps.

Unwanted local currency. Figure out how much cash you will need on your last night in a foreign location and set that aside. The next morning when you check out, you can take that cash and apply it to your hotel bill and then pay the remaining balance with a no-foreign-transaction-fee credit card.

Cruise Versus All-Inclusive Resort: Which Should You Choose?

Cruise Versus All-Inclusive Resort: Which Should You Choose?

There is nothing like a vacation getaway where everything is taken care of. People often wonder which vacation type, a cruise or an all-inclusive resort is the right choice and better deal for them?

Typically on a cruise, and mostly talking about Ocean cruises, not necessarily River Cruises, you might get charged for drink such as alcohol, specialty coffee and meals, and maybe even onboard activities. Not always, but depending on what type of cruise, this is possible. Always ask a Travel Team Agent and we will make sure you are informed, and we find you the best deals on any vacation!

On many of the newer ships, onboard entertainment also is included. In the evening, Vegas-style shows, Broadway musicals, comedy, magic acts and more are available.  Ocean cruises typically include onboard accommodations, meals in a few (but not all) onboard eateries, select nonalcoholic beverages, pool use, daytime kids programs and port stops in multiple destinations (but not necessarily excursions). Ask a Travel Team Agent for detailed information at 1-800-788-0829.

Luxury cruise ships, as well as some river cruise and expeditions are a different story.  Usually some or all shore excursions and a selection of both nonalcoholic and alcoholic beverages are in the fares.

All-inclusive resorts include much more. Your payment at all-inclusive resorts will include meals at all on-site restaurants, all drinks (soda, alcohol, coffee), beach and pool access, daytime activities, fitness classes, kids programming, and non-motorized water sports like snorkeling and kayaking. Scuba and snorkel trips, as well as other activities like golf may also be included.

The Bottom Line — All Inclusive vs. Cruise

Whether or not you should choose a cruise or an All-Inclusive vacation really depends on your vacation priorities and spending habits.

If you prefer lying on the same beach for a week straight, and spend the evenings dancing the night away, an all-inclusive resort might be best for you.  If you want to visit more than one destination and see a show in the evening instead, a cruise might be best. Pick the cruise if you like Broadway-style entertainment, if you want to visit different destinations in a week and enjoy days at sea.

Pick the resort if you like hanging wearing a bathing suit all day, or want to walk on the beach any time, try water sports and activities, or eat and drink as much as you want, as these things are usually included.

Ready to plan your dream vacation or cruise? Contact a Travel team Agent today at 1-800-788-0829 for information – We can help you decide what the best option is for you, and save you money!

Fun July 4th Facts & Travel Tips

Fun July 4th Facts & Travel Tips

July 4th is the United States National Day most patriotic day of the year. A day for fun, sun, barbecues, and of course, travel. Here are some fun facts along with some helpful travel advice for this upcoming July 4th holiday:

Independence Day Facts

  1. Three Presidents Died on July 4th.

Thomas Jefferson – Jul 4, 1826

John Adams – July 4 1826

James Monroe – July 4, 1831

  1. Two Presidents Died on the Same Day – July 4.

Both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson signed the Declaration of Independence and both died on the same day. Weird.

  1. Born on the 4th of July

President Calvin Coolidge was born on July 4th 1872, so was Meyer Lansky, a Russian American mobster in 1902; Abigail Van Buren or as most of us know her “Dear Abby’; singer Bill Withers; Malia Obama are just some well known figures born on this day.

  1. Fireworks

In the USA, we light up about 200 million pounds of fireworks! Most of them are imported from China – that’s about $247,100,000 worth.

  1. Bald Eagle? What about a Turkey instead?

We bet you did not know that Benjamin Franklin wanted the national bird to be a Turkey. Benjamin Franklin thought that the bald eagle is a bird of bad moral character, whereas the turkey is a more respectable bird. We all know how this turned out, he lost that vote.

  1. Road Trip

The First week of July is typically the busiest travel week of the year in the United States. Tips to avoid the holiday gridlock are to arrive at the airport at least 2 hours in advance; avoid traveling on the road between 2pm and 5pm on July 3rd; if you are planning on sticking around to watch the fireworks, consider leaving early, before the show is over, or stay overnight so you don’t get stuck in traffic.

  1. Coincidences

Did you know that not only did both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson both signed the Declaration of Independence on this day but also both died on the same day?

  1. Philippines celebrates July 4 after Independence from the United States

Well who knew….. on July 4th, 1946, the Treaty of Manila was signed in the Philippines giving them independence from…The United States.

  1. Mount Rushmore

  1. Hot Dog!

A traditional staple food for BBQ’s on July 4th is the hot dog.  America consumes about 150 million hot dogs on this date.

13 Ways To Save on New Zealand Travel

13 Ways To Save on New Zealand Travel

Who wouldn’t want to visit New Zealand? The amazing mountains, beaches, wildlife and fascinating Maori culture make it a dream destination for many. To save on travel and help make your dream vacation a reality, read these tips on how to save money on your New Zealand vacation….

  1. Choose the right time to travel. New Zealand’s seasons are the reverse of the seasons in the United States. The busiest travel season runs during New Zealand’s summer, December through February. During this time, both locals and visitors travel to the country’s most popular sights, and prices rise for everything. Visit during the spring, fall, or the winter in New Zealand to save money.
  2. Choose your focus. New Zealand may not look like a big country, but if you plan on seeing everything, only staying a week or two just won’t be enough. For limited time or budget, just concentrate on either the North Island or the South Island, not both.
  3. Choose an airport. Most sales on airfares leave from Los Angeles or San Francisco. If you don’t live near one of these airports, ask a Travel Team Agent to book you a cheap flight to get you to and from California; call 1-800-788-0429 for details.
  4. Watch the exchange rates. The changes and fluctuations in currency can affect the prices of air and trips. Keep an eye out for the exchange rates so you can save when the US dollar is strongest.
  5. Use plastic. Most hotels, restaurants, tour operators and shops in New Zealand accept credit cards. You can pay for most of your trip without any extra fees is you use a card that doesn’t charge fees for foreign transactions.
  6. Cash or exchange counter? Use your ATM card to make withdrawals instead of changing your dollars at exchange counter. You can usually save 2 – 5 percent better than the rates you’ll find at the counter.
  7. To tip or not to tip. Tipping is not normally customary in New Zealand, so you don’t need to leave anything extra unless the service was truly exemplary. Leave about 5 – 10 percent if you really want to tip.
  8. Freebies. There are plenty of free attractions to enjoy in New Zealand. It costs nothing to hike in most national parks, visit a North Island beach, Rotorua Lakefront or walk thru gardens in Queenstown. Auckland has an Art Gallery that is free to enter and Wellington‘s Te Papa museum is free as well. Ask your Travel Team Agent for ideas of attractions that are free by calling 1-800-788-0829.
  9. Get a city pass. Auckland and Wellington offer discount passes that you can use to get into multiple city attractions for one price that’s cheaper than the cost of individual admission. Ask a Travel Team Agent to look into this for you by calling 1-800-788-0829.
  10. Travel during less popular seasons. By traveling when others aren’t, you can save money. One of New Zealand’s most popular activities is a scenic cruise on Milford Sound. Avoid times that are less crowded.  Always ask a Travel Team Agent for the best times to travel by calling 1-800-788-0829.
  11. Get on the bus. You can save money by riding New Zealand’s local buses, which offer inexpensive rides to a network of destinations around the country.
  12. Go to the grocery store. Be like a local and get most of your food from grocery stores instead of restaurants. Grab some bread, yogurt and fruit for a quick picnic lunch. If your accommodation has a kitchen, use it to cook meals for yourself instead of going to resteraunts.
  13. Go to Happy Hour. Alcohol can be pricey in New Zealand, but many bars and pubs offer happy hours with bargain-priced drinks.

Planning Your Perfect Tahiti Vacation in 8 Tips

Planning Your Perfect Tahiti Vacation in 8 Tips

Tahiti  and Bora Bora Travel Specials

Tahiti is a place that is like no other! Besides the fact that it is a tropical paradise, here are some essential tips when planning a Tahiti vacation; use this as your Tahiti travel planning tool!

1    Know a bit about Tahitian Geography –  It is helpful to know some Tahitian Geography. Tahiti, Bora Bora, Papeete, which place is what? The country is officially known as French Polynesia, a group of Pacific Islands, and the largest and capital is on the island of Tahiti. The largest town is known as Papeete, on Tahiti. Other well-known islands are Bora Bora, Moorea, Huahine, Taha’a, Tikeahau, and Rangiroa. It’s pretty much like how Hawaii has a large island called Hawaii, and all of the islands are known as Hawaii, but there is Oahu, Maui, Kauai, etc.

2    Book Early. Tahiti is a premier destination where often the demand is greater than supply. It is not always reliable to rely on last-minute specials. It is best to book accommodations 90 –180 days in advance.  Many resorts in Tahiti give their best deals to people who book at least 6 months in advance. This goes for flights; it is important that you book your flights well in advance too, Tahiti is popular, and there are limited flights. Ask a Travel Team Agent at 1-800-788-0829  to help you with this, no extra cost to you and we can find you the best deals with no hassle for you!

Tahiti  and Bora Bora Travel Specials

3   Stick to a brand. When island hopping, people who stay with the same chain of hotels will get the best bang for their buck. This is because resorts often offer multi-island discounts when staying with the same brand. Travel Team Agents know all of this info off-hand, let us arrange your trip and make sure you get the most out of your trip. Contact a Travel Team Agent at 1-800-788-0829 today!

4   Book all of your air at once. You obviously need to fly to the destination, but if you plan on island hopping, we recommend booking the inter-island flights at the same time as your international airfare. Travel Team Agents do this for you – and will happily arrange all of your flights! Contact a Travel Team Agent at 1-800-788-0829 today!

5    Mix and match the types of rooms you stay in! Want to stay in an over-water bungalow? We all do! In order to save money and experience what each island is known for, for instance, maybe consider a Garden room upon the first arrival, on the island you plan on being the most active. When you are outside doing activities, you’re actually not in your room till the evening. When you move onto your next island and you’re ready to soak up the Tahitian sun, magnificent scenery, and indulge yourself in sheer luxury – stay in an overwater bungalow! The combination will give you the best possible value and experience by allowing you to enjoy what each island is known for. Contact a Travel Team Agent at 1-800-788-0829 today!

Tahiti  and Bora Bora Travel Specials

6     Seasonality and Meals. Often resort rates will include meals, take advantage of this. During the United States, winter is when resorts include meals in their rates, or even have reduced rates on meals – how perfect as this is when we want to escape our winter! The savings of not paying for food at your resort is worth it.

7     Visit Papeete and eat at a Roulotte. Visit Papeete, the capital and largest city of French Polynesia, it’s definitely worth it. Shopping is the best here. The local fruit and veggie markets are great, and what is most worth the visit to Papeete – is to dine out at the Roulotte’s. These are gourmet food trucks with tables and chairs set up outdoors, combining French, Tahitian, and other International cuisines. This is a great way to meet locals as well as travelers at other resorts and who also arrived by yacht or cruise ship.

Tahiti  and Bora Bora Travel Specials

8    Consider less “famous” islands. Many people know about Bora Bora and Moorea, but some of the lesser-known islands such as Huahine or Tikehau sometimes offer pretty good discounts off the room at certain times of the year, and are less crowded. The lesser-known islands are great for second-time visitors looking for something different, and if you’re looking for privacy these can be a perfect choice as well.

Father’s Day Traditions Around The World

Father’s Day Traditions Around The World

Father’s Day in the U.S. took about 60 years to to be officially established. Former President Richard Nixon signed it into law in 1972. America, and many other countries, celebrate fathers each year on the third Sunday in June. Father’s Day traditions and dates vary around the world. Here’s how nine nations celebrate dads each year:

Thailand:

Father’s Day in Thailand is celebrated on Dec. 5. Which is the birthday of King Bhuminol Adulyadeij. The King gives a speech and Thai people wear pink to honor him — the King was once seen wearing a pink blazer as he left the hospital. It is also a tradition for people to give Canna Lilies to fathers and grandfathers. For trips to Thailand, click here, or call a travel team agent at 1-800-788-0829

Russia:

In Russia, all men, not just fathers, are celebrated on what is known as Defender of the Fatherland Day. The Feb. 23 holiday started as a military commemoration. Soldiers are also honored in parades throughout the country. Women give the important men in their lives — not just dads — gifts.  For trips to Europe or Russia, click here, or call a travel team agent at 1-800-788-0829

Brazil:

In Brazil, this celebration was brought by the Spanish and Portuguese to Latin America. In Brazil Father’s Day (Dia dos Pais, in Portuguese) is celebrated three months after Mother’s Day, on the second Sunday of August. It is not recognized as a official holiday, but is widely observed and typically involves spending time with and giving gifts to one’s father or father figure. Germany:

In Germany, Father’s Day, or called Vatertag, is a federal holiday celebrated on the 40th day of Easter, Ascension Day. Men in Germany traditionally celebrate by pulling wagons loaded with beer and liquor into the woods. Instead of hiking and drinking, some men celebrate by going on bar crawls – something that sounds a bit familiar to some Americans. Nepal:

The Nepalese celebration of Father’s Day is celebrated in late summer, and is called Gokarna Aunsi, which literally translates as ‘cow earned no moon night.’ Sons touch their foreheads to their father’s feet and daughters touch their foreheads to their father’s hands. Children also give gifts to their fathers. People also gather to pray for the fathers who have passed away.

Mexico:

Mexico has an annual 21K Father’s Day race, Carrera Día del Padre 21K Bosque de Tlalpan, each year on the third Sunday in June. They also celebrate with parties and gifts for dads. For more information on Mexico vacations, click here, or call a travel team agent at 1-800-788-0829
