VIEW ITINERARY

DAY 1   Stockholm, Sweden

Begin your cruise in Stockholm’s stunning archipelago, nestled where Lake Mälaren meets the Baltic. Take in this amazing city spread over 14 islands and its 13th-century Old Town, or Gamla Stan, with German-influenced architecture. Consider a trip to the Vasa Museum to see an amazingly preserved 17th-century ship, or indulge in a smörgåsbord complete with traditional smoked salmon. Or opt for a trip to Skokloster Castle in the Swedish countryside.

DAY 2   Stockholm, Sweden

Spend the morning exploring Stockholm’s architectural and natural wonders. Perhaps you will embark on an intimate boat tour and take in the breathtaking cityscape from the waters. Attend a private performance at the famed opera house. Or head on your own to the heart of the city to stroll the inviting footpaths of Djurgården Island, once a royal game park and today a picturesque recreational area blanketed in green. We depart in the early afternoon for a scenic cruise through the Stockholm archipelago.

DAY 3   Helsinki, Finland

Spend the day in Helsinki, known as the “White City of the North.” Take an included city tour and view the Uspenski Cathedral; its 13 magnificent green and gold domes represent Christ and the apostles. Nearby is Porvoo, a charming medieval town with cobbled streets that weave between historic wooden buildings. Or travel to the home of composer Jean Sibelius at Ainola and take in a concert at the summer school. Alternatively, visit the 18th-century Suomenlinna Fortress, one of the world’s largest historical maritime fortresses. Another highlight is the spectacular Temppeliaukio Church, also known as the “Rock Church” – a subterranean sanctuary with rough-hewn walls of granite.

DAY 4   St. Petersburg, Russia

From morning through the next day, explore majestic St. Petersburg. Enjoy an included tour that shows you St. Isaac’s Cathedral, the Peter and Paul Fortress, Nevsky Prospekt and more. Our overnight stay allows time to choose an optional tour of the Hermitage, an evening at a private concert and more as we will be spending the night in port.

DAY 5   St. Petersburg, Russia

Awake in St. Petersburg for a second day of exploration. Today you can choose to return to the city for a more detailed look at the wonders on display or journey into the countryside to visit the magnificent summer places of the Tsars of Russia. If you didn’t take yesterday’s included guided tour you can do so today. Or opt for one of the many optional tours.

DAY 6   Tallinn, Estonia

Awake with a full day in Tallinn, where you can nibble your way through intricate edible creations, for this is the birthplace of marzipan. One of the best-preserved medieval Old Towns in Northern Europe, Tallinn is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with picturesque cobbled streets, red rooftops and beautiful views of the sea. Stroll the Lower Town’s narrow 13th-century streets, passing the Great Guild House, House of the Brotherhood of the Blackheads and Town Hall (1404). You can even explore Katarina (St. Catherine’s) Passage, lined with handcraft workshops. Additionally, you’ll be able to experience the summer evenings, when the streets are filled with locals.

DAY 7   Cruise the Baltic Sea

Relax today aboard your ship. Learn more about your upcoming destinations during an intriguing port talk, and explore your ship, perhaps unwinding in the spa’s snow room and sauna, or by taking a dip in the infinity pool. Tonight, try a regional specialty in The Restaurant, or take in a recent movie in one of our three theaters—two indoor and one under the stars at the main pool.

DAY 8   Gdańsk (Gdynia), Poland

Gilded Goldwasser. Glowing amber. Gothic cathedrals. Your stop in Gdansk is one of the richest cities in the Hanseatic League. Spend the morning strolling the remarkably restored old town with its mix of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles. Perhaps you’ll indulge in the traditional pierogi dumplings, or a glass of gold-flecked Goldwasser—a liqueur created here in the 16th-century. Or, opt to explore the medieval Teutonic stronghold, Malbork Castle, the world’s largest castle and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

DAY 9   Berlin (Warnemünde), Germany

From port, take the included transfer through the scenic countryside of the Mecklenburg region to Germany’s historic capital, Berlin—just a few hours away—where you will have the day to explore. Here you can discover at your own pace the major sights of the Berlin Wall, Alexanderplatz square and “Checkpoint Charlie.” Alternatively, on an optional tour take lunch in the Kafer restaurant, which perches atop the magnificent Reichstag.

DAY 10   Copenhagen, Denmark

Originally a Viking fishing village founded in the 10th century, the Danish capital boasts over 850 years of history. With an entire day to explore, pass the brightly colored houses of Nyhavn or “New Harbor,” once the home of Hans Christian Andersen. Discover the sumptuously Rococo interiors of Amalienborg Palace, the winter residence of the Danish Royal Family. You may also want to consider a trip to the ornate Kronborg Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the inspirational setting of Shakespeare’s Hamlet. This fairy tale city provides plenty to explore, including delights for your palate at one of the many Michelin-starred restaurants, where you can indulge in a decadent lunch or an early dinner.

DAY 11   Ålborg, Denmark

Founded by the Vikings in the late 900s, this historic city straddles both sides of the Limfjord Sound. Spend the morning strolling along to Nytorv (New Square) to see the Renaissance-style Jens Bangs Stonehouse, the Baroque-style town hall, and the charming 14th-century Budolfi Church. Take in the lively Jomfru Ane Gade, a street lined with trendy cafés and restaurants. Or, opt for a tour led by a local chef to taste traditional aquavit, a herb-infused spirit distilled here since the 15th century.

DAY 12   Stavanger, Norway

From the heart of Old Town, where your ship berths, you will have the morning and early afternoon to explore. Start in the old quarter, Gamle Stavanger, which has Europe’s highest concentration of wooden buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries. Or consider a cruise along the Lysefjord to see the famous Preikestolen or “Pulpit Rock,” jutting out nearly 2,000 feet above—it is one of Norway’s most famous natural attractions. Offshore oil drilling is an important industry for the local economy and the award-winning Petroleum Museum tells the story of the dangers faced extracting this precious fuel. While ashore, don’t forget to indulge in waffles with cream and sweet jams.

DAY 13   Eidfjord, Norway

Cruise through breathtaking fjords into the village of Eidfjord, nestled in the heart of one of Norway’s most scenic regions. Ascend Europe’s largest mountain plateau, Hardangervidda, for sweeping views of epic Nordic landscapes. Here, in Norway’s largest national park, visit the informative Nature Center and perhaps view the Hardangerjøkulen glacier in the distance. You can also marvel at the stupendous 550-foot drop of the Vøringsfossen waterfall into the cavernous Måbødalen canyon. Alternately, you can opt to visit the expansive fruit orchards of Lofthus or tour Europe’s largest hydroelectric power plant at Simadal.

DAY 14   Bergen, Norway

Encircled by majestic mountains, fjords and glaciers, Bergen was home to Viking sagas. With Viking Star berthed next to the UNESCO-listed Bryggen wharf, easily stroll along its waterfront. See the beautiful 18th-century wooden houses, and visit the Hanseatic Museum on your included tour. Or take an excursion to the home of Edvard Grieg, Norway’s famous composer, in Troldhaugen, or a trip to the top of Mt. Ulriken to savor an “Ulriken Bun,” a cinnamon pastry, at the mountaintop restaurant. This evening be one of the locals and dine ashore as we will be spending the night in port.

DAY 15   Bergen, Norway

Awake in Bergen, where you will be departing your ship. From here, you can easily spend a few extra days to further explore this city or discover other areas of Norway.

6 Reasons Why You Should Book with a Travel Agent

6 Reasons Why You Should Book with a Travel Agent

There is always 1 secret weapon to ensuring you get a good deal – using a Travel Agent. Here is 6 reasons why you should book through an agent for your next big vacation.

Check out our most popular vacations that include both Australia & New Zealand!

Australia & New Zealand in 18 days from $3,599

22 Day Australia & New Zealand from $4,999

14 Best of Australia & New Zealand from $2,999

1. We will get you the lowest price possible.

Travel agents have experience and tricks that you may not have heard of to make sure you get the lowest rates; it takes the stress off of you when searching, and there is no additional cost when you use a Travel Team Agent.

2. We have better connections than the Internet.

Travel Agents have resources and connections that the internet does not. We know how to upgrade your trip to make sure you get the most discounted rates.

3. Agents have got the most “pull” with hotels.

We also have relationships with hotels and cruise lines that allow us to look out for you and find you the best deals. Hotels are careful to keep travel agents and their clients happy so they will continue to book with them in the future. A hotel can easily tell a person ‘No’, but there is a bigger incentive to turn that No into a Yes when dealing with Travel Agents.

4. Our specialty is finding group discounts.

If you are planning a big corporate trip or wedding, it is best to let travel agents do they work for you. We research the best deals for multiple people, find coupons when needed, and try our best to upgrade your suite or hotel to make sure you have the best experience possible. The time saved alone in researching on your own can be days.

5. We will rebook a flight for you.

Let’s say your flight gets cancelled unexpectedly, or you are really unhappy with your rental car.

Don’t fear, your travel agent is here! Travel agents not only save you time, but if the unexpected ever happens, rest assured you have a safety net and can sometimes get extra help regarding cancelled flights that you would not be able to.

6. They can find the best cruises and cruise activities for you.

Need help finding a cruise ASAP, or booking the perfect cabin, or finding those off-the-boat excursions? Travel agents are specialists at navigating the cruise-planning activities like a pro, and we are usually the first to find out the best deals on cruises or activities.

10 Things You Should Never Wear When Traveling Abroad

Before you get out your suitcase, here are 10 things you may wish to leave in your closet as you pack for your next trip abroad. Note that this list offers broad guidelines; you’ll want to research your specific destination to find out which ones are and aren’t applicable for your particular trip.

Religiously Immodest Clothing

It’s wise to dress conservatively in any country holding deeply religious views, such as those in the Middle East (if you’re not sure, your travel agent or guidebook can offer advice on local religious customs). Women in particular should avoid miniskirts, tank tops, bra tops, short-sleeved shirts, shorts and sometimes even capri pants. Revealing dresses and cleavage-bearing necklines are also huge no-nos. Men should avoid shorts and sleeveless tops in many Middle Eastern countries or when entering a church or other holy place.

Pants and long skirts are a safe bet, and women should carry a shawl in their bag or purse just in case. As a general rule, travelers should cover their shoulders and knees when entering any church or holy site to avoid unwanted stares or being denied entry. It’s also wise to keep your feet and ankles covered. When in doubt, stick to long sleeves, and men, keep that chest hair concealed.

Sneakers and Open-Toe Shoes

In many parts of the world, sneakers are for sporting activities only. White tennis shoes, Crocs and Birkenstocks are notably frowned upon by Spaniards and Italians. Instead, wear comfortable leather walking shoes in the city, and keep them polished and in good shape. White, lace-up tennis shoes are the calling card of American tourists (and don’t even think about Velcro sneakers).

If you’re traveling anywhere but a beach, it’s generally wise to stick with closed-toe shoes, which can help prevent insect bites or cuts on your toes from gravelly surfaces.

Shorts

Yes, we Americans do love our shorts, but some other cultures — such as Indonesians and Vietnamese — don’t wear them for everyday walking around, no matter the season or how close they are to the equator. Consider reserving your khaki shorts for beaches, parks, tennis clubs and hiking trails.

Flashy Jewelry

Never wear expensive, flashy jewelry abroad, unless you want your diamond rings, pearls and pricey watches to be tagged for someone else’s collection. Since there’s probably no need to impress anyone that much on your trip abroad, leave the valuables at home.

Religious Imagery, Curse Words or National Flags

Avoid clothing sporting religious or military symbols, swear words, national flags and any words or symbols written in a language you cannot translate. There’s no need to unintentionally spark an emotional debate while on vacation. It’s also not a bad idea to leave religious jewelry, even cross necklaces, at home. If you must, wear them under your clothes so they’re not visible to anyone.

Bright Colors

Unless loud colors or bold patterns are the norm in your destination, consider sticking with conservative hues like navy, blue, tan and gray. Look put together, opting for classic, well-fitting clothing. You want to blend in, not draw unwanted attention to yourself (and nothing does that better than a neon green tank top).

Inappropriate Colors

In the Western world, we may wear black to wakes and funerals, but in parts of Asia, white is the funereal color — good to keep in mind on the off chance you may be mourning someone’s passing while on holiday. Meanwhile, stay away from wearing black or blue in central Africa; these are the favorite colors of large, biting tsetse flies.

Jeans

Jeans are increasingly popular around the world, so they don’t scream “Tourist!” the way they used to. That said, they should fit well and be wrinkle-free. It’s even better if you opt for black or dark blue jeans. Baggy or ripped jeans are frowned upon in some cultures, and they may look disrespectful if you wear them into churches, mosques or other holy sites.

If you’re traveling to a warm and/or rainy climate, consider alternatives to jeans; they don’t breathe well and take a long time to dry, making them impractical for many itineraries.

Backpacks

Planning to spend the summer backpacking acrossEurope or Southeast Asia? Then a large backpack is practical and probably a better bet than a rollaboard suitcase for lugging onto trains and traveling between destinations. But bring a secondary bag, like a small fabric tote bag that can be worn across your chest, for everyday touring around cities. Any kind of backpack, big or small, may mark you as a tourist. They’re also easy to reach into and steal from if you’re wearing one on your back on a busy bus or train.

Cameras

This advice isn’t workable for pro photographers, but casual shutterbugs should snap a photo or two, then put the camera away. Nothing screams tourist like a camera permanently hanging from your neck. Not only do you stand out, but you may also get targeted by thieves. Carry a camera or smartphone that you can fit into your small bag.

A Few More Tips

Dressing appropriately while abroad not only helps you fit in with locals and receive friendlier service, but it also protects you from standing out to pickpockets. When in doubt, look at what the locals are wearing. “The best thing a traveler can do is go to a local clothing store and buy a couple of outfits — then no one will ever mistake you for a tourist,” says travel expert John E. DiScala (a k a Johnny Jet). Plus, your new wardrobe additions make great souvenirs.

Beyond watching what you wear, there are a few other things you can do to make yourself look like less of a traveler. For one, look like you know what you’re doing and where you’re going, even if you have to fake it. “Standing in the middle of the block looking confused — or worse, unfolding a map — calls you out as a tourist,” notes Matthew Reames, who traveled extensively through Europe a few years ago. “[Instead], pop into a coffee shop or something like that to give yourself time to pause and get your bearings.”

Be wary of hand gestures, both making them and wearing clothing depicting them, because these can have different meanings depending on where you are. In Bangladesh, for example, the “thumbs up” gesture is considered obscene. Since you may never know what certain images suggest in another country, avoid them to keep from offending anyone. Visit Guide.CultureCrossing.net to read up on common local gestures and taboos.

Sometimes even more important than how we look is what we sound like. Many Americans can be readily identified by their loud (and often complaining) voices. Keep your sound level low and your speech polite, though this suggestion can certainly be applied to travel anywhere, even within your own home town.

15 Facts You Probably Didn’t Know About Tahiti

15 Facts You Probably Didn’t Know About Tahiti

Think you do know everything about Tahiti? From the stunning landscapes, friendly locals and postcard worthy views, here are 15 things about the islands you probably didn’t.

How to Choose Between Tahiti or Fiji

#1. Tahiti is made up of 118 islands and atolls spread out over five archipelagos. The whole archipelago spans 4.000.000 square km, which is the equivalent size of Europe.

#2.  The Tahitian alphabet is made up of 13 letters; the vowels a, e, i, o, u and the consonants f, h, m, n, p, r, t and v. Noticed that there is no b? That’s why Bora Bora is actually pronounced “Pora Pora”. It means “first-born”, but early visitors heard it as Bora Bora.

#3.   A typical Las Vegas hotel has more rooms than on all 118 islands of French Polynesia.

#4.   The shopping and retail on the island is monopolized by the Chinese population. When you hear Tahitians talk about going shopping, they say they are going to “la Chine” or to the Chinese.

#5.  In ancient Tahiti, archery was considered to be a sacred sport, and only people of high rank could participate. And while they were expert marksmen, bows and arrows were never used as weapons of war.

#6.  There are no poisonous snakes or insects in French Polynesia.

Contact a Travel Team Agent for more information or to plan your trip at 1-800-788-0829

#7.  Tahitians are considered to be the most genuinely friendly people in the world.

#8.  The official languages of the islands are Tahitian and French, however, English is widely spoken on most of the islands.

#9.  The word tattoo originated in French Polynesia.  Tattoos have long been considered signs of beauty in Polynesian culture, and in ancient times were ceremoniously applied to the body when reaching adolescence. The English word ‘tattoo’ comes from the Tahitian word ‘tatau’.

#10.  Hawaii receives more tourists in a day than Tahiti does in a year.  Tahiti is therefore one of the most exclusive destinations in the world.

#11.  “Tahiti” or “The Islands of Tahiti” is technically an ‘Overseas Country of France’, though it has it’s own government which makes all international decisions on behalf of French Polynesia.

#12.  More than half of the population of Tahiti is under the age of 20 years old.

Contact a Travel Team Agent for more information or to plan your trip at 1-800-788-0829

#13.  The overwater bungalow was invented in Tahiti in the 1960’s on the island of Moorea.

#14.  If you were new to the island, you would think the boxes outside the homes of Tahitian residents were for mail. They are actually for French bread delivery. Residents get a fresh loaf dropped off twice a day.

#15.  The Tiare flower is the national symbol of Tahiti. Both men and women wear these flower, either as a necklace, crown or behind the ear. You wear a Tiare flower on your left ear if you’re taken, on your right ear to indicate you’re available.

30 Ways to Use Your Smartphone When You Travel

One of the best gadgets for travelers may already be in your pocket. From first researching a trip to remembering where you went once you get back, here are 30 ways to put your smartphone to use when you travel.

Check out our most popular vacations that include both Australia & New Zealand!

Australia & New Zealand in 19 days from $3,899

22 Day Australia & New Zealand from $5,399

1. As a travel agent: If you know your destination but not your dates, use the Fly.comCustom Fare Calendars to search for the cheapest dates to fly specific routes. If you know your dates but not your destination, download the Today’s Best Fares app to search for the cheapest flights from your city.

Contact a Travel Team Agent for more information or to plan your trip at 1-800-788-0829

2. As a personal assistant: Keep your flight bookings, theater tickets, and restaurant reservations organized in one place with apps which can also alert you to flight delays and better seat openings on your flight.

3. As a group planner: Download the Google Docs app or Evernote and share with your travel companions so that everyone can add their itineraries and recommendations in one easily accessible place. Glympse and Find My Friends can be used to temporarily share each other’s locations so you can track arrival times and coordinate meeting spots.

4. As a last-minute packing assistant: Apps like Packing Pro generate suggested packing lists based on your destination and purpose, or create your own in Notes to check off before heading out the door.

5. As a map: As long as location services are enabled, you can see where you are on Google Maps even without a Wi-Fi connection or data (though not directions to where you want to go). For a more detailed map, download the offline version ahead of time from Google Maps, or use other apps like Maps.me (which has a search function) andSpyglass (specializing in outdoor navigation). I also make use of old-fashioned screenshots when I know I can’t count on a continuous Wi-Fi connection (great for showing to cab drivers when there’s a language barrier).

6. As a subway navigator: Most public transportation systems have an app to help you plan your route, even when you’re offline. Examples include Embark for major U.S. cities and MVV Companion for Munich, which you can even purchase your tickets through.

7. As a Wi-Fi finder: The JiWire Wi-Fi Finder app can help you find free Wi-Fi wherever you are, even when you’re offline.

Contact a Travel Team Agent for more information or to plan your trip at 1-800-788-0829

8. As a hot spot: In a pinch, you can use your smartphone’s data connection to create a Wi-Fi hot spot for other devices. However, this option burns through a lot of data, so use it wisely.

9. As a long-layover lifesaver: GateGuru is good for helping you navigate airports, and shows what restaurants and shops are in your terminal so you can avoid aimless wandering. If you get stuck due to a delay, plenty of mobile games can help you pass time (my favorite is Threes).

10. As a compass: Don’t waste time wandering; use your phone’s compass to get pointed in the right direction (built into iPhones or available as an app elsewhere).

11. As a flashlight: The flashlight function is another built-in feature that may come in handy in more remote corners of the globe, or even just going to the bathroom in the middle of the night when you can’t remember where the lightswitches are.

12. As a translator: Study a language before your trip with the free Duolingo app, and supplement your knowledge with translation apps like Google Translate, which lets you type in words or hold the app over printed text to see an instant translation.

13. As a money saver: Use it to search for deals at top-rated restaurants, shows, and hotels around the world.

14. As a phone: Hold the presses–yes, your phone can be used as a phone. However, it’s important to know your options before racking up long-distance charges. My suggestion for shorter trips is to keep your cellular data turned off and use a Wi-Fi connection to make free long-distance calls through services like Skype and FaceTime. For longer trips where you need to stay in touch regularly, investigate other options, like purchasing a local SIM card.

15. As a currency converter: I recommend XE Currency App for its simplicity and ability to work offline (at the most recently downloaded exchange rate).

16. As a security system: Connect with the Department of State’s Smart Traveler appto get travel alerts and warnings, U.S. embassy locations and more. The !Emergency!app supplies emergency-services phone numbers for wherever you are, and will automatically dial them for you.

17. As a first aid guide: Hopefully you’ll never need it, but the Red Cross First Aid app lets you quickly access information to handle common first aid emergencies.

18. As a medical ID: You can add emergency info to your phone’s lock screen, such as medications, blood type and emergency contacts.

19. As a scanner and filing cabinet: Business travelers can avoid overflowing briefcases with apps like Docs To Go, which lets you view and edit Microsoft Office documents on your phone. The free CamScanner app lets you use your smartphone camera as a rudimentary scanner, then email the document in whatever file format you want.

20. As a tour guide: Find free apps for walking tours, museum guides and more.

21. As a concierge: Find recommendations for restaurants and activities with apps like TripAdvisor and Gogobot, which lets you save itineraries and search for nearby attractions.

22. As a jet lag alleviator: Plug in your old and new time zones and the Entrain app calculates the best lighting schedule to help you adjust to your new time zone as quickly as possible.

Contact a Travel Team Agent for more information or to plan your trip at 1-800-788-0829

23. As a camera: Your smartphone has likely already replaced your digital camera for everyday use, but a number of photography apps can take your smartphone photos to the next level with digital zooming, composition guides and editing tools.

24. As a luggage tracker: Devices like the LugLoc can help you locate your luggage with the tap of a smartphone, though they require an initial investment.

25. As a personal trainer: The Huffington Post lists five best fitness apps for travelers.

26. As a social coordinator: Smartphone travel apps like Tripr let you connect with locals as well as fellow travelers either ahead of time or once you’re at your destination. Ship Mate is a social app specifically designed for cruise passengers.

27. As sleep insurance: For light sleepers, the SimplyNoise app is the best $0.99 you can spend. Pick between three frequencies of white noise to drown out sounds from paper-thin hotel walls or snoring travel companions. The Sleep Cycle power-nap app helps you time naps with your REM cycle so you can take the edge off jet lag without waking up groggy.

28. As a weather forecaster: Most smartphones can pull up a basic weather forecast with a single swipe. For more detailed information, weather apps can tell you whether the pollen count warrants packing allergy meds, when to time your beachside dinner reservation to catch the sunset, or when to have the best chance of spotting the northern lights.

29. As a personal driver: Skip the money exchange window–some car-service apps let you hail a car and pay with your phone. Hailo is available in many European and Southeast Asian cities, while Uber is currently in 65 countries.

30. As a memory preserver: If you’ve ever come home from vacation and found that all your photos of historic cathedrals are blurring together, SpeakingPhoto lets your narrate your photos as you go. Besides the classics like Instagram and Facebook, here are 15 other ways to digitally preserve your travels.

If You’re on a Budget, This is When You Should Travel

If You’re on a Budget, This is When You Should Travel

Here at Travel Team, we’re always looking for the best time to visit destinations around the globe. Did you know that visiting during an off-peak travel period, you can snag a sweet deal. And in some cases, it can make a typically expensive trip downright affordable.

Check out our most popular vacations that include both Australia & New Zealand!

Here’s some examples of the best time of year for travel to certain destinations:

Thailand – Sure July-October is the rainy season, but the downpours rarely last all day.

• China – Expect blue skies but cold winds November-February, especially on The Great Wall. As a reward, you’ll have entire sections of the wall to yourself.

• Europe – November-February is the calm before spring and summer crowds descend on European cities. You can see so much more when you’re not wasting precious time in line at sites like The Vatican. Plus, isn’t there something romantic about a thin layer of frost on The Eiffel Tower?

• South Africa – December-March isn’t the best for spotting animals, but you can still see plenty of wildlife in between trips to Cape Town’s spectacular beaches.

• Costa Rica – This is during the wet or rainy season, but much like Florida, the rain doesn’t last. May-November is also the best time to see baby sea turtles hatch and an ideal time for advanced white-water rafting trips.

• Hawaii – I love this travel period because you’re dodging spring break and summer crowds. Oh, and you get to go to HAWAII. Spring & fall is where it’s at.

• Peru – This is during Peru’s rainy season, when roads can be muddy. Sounds like November-April is a perfect time to book an escorted package (let someone else worry about navigating the roads).

• Israel – I know people that specifically visit Israel in winter. After all, you’re still in the Middle East so January-February usually means more rain, some chilly days but rarely snow. Bring an umbrella, layer up and stockpile your days with plenty of indoor sites.

• Turkey – This is the coldest time of year to visit Turkey, but an ideal time to visit Istanbul. You’ll practically have the city to yourself as you linger at the Blue Mosque and beyond. Avoid the coastal cities as they virtually shut down in February so no hot air balloon rides this time of year.

• Australia – We’re hitting the hot, humid, wet summer from October-March so be prepared. I like the idea of hitting the shoulder of this window, maybe September or October, and hoping to get lucky with some more pleasant days.

Australia & New Zealand in 19 days from $3,899

22 Day Australia & New Zealand from $5,399

• Orlando – In winter and when kids go back to school in fall, the crowds die down at Disney World and you can see so much more at the parks. Just check the parks’ sites in advance: Disney tends to use the January-February window to tweak and maintain some of their rides.

• Vegas – What are you doing outside in Vegas anyway? Between shows, table games and resort hopping, most of your trip will be inside, especially during summer. Don’t forget, it’s always 65 in a casino. In addition to summer, the 3-4 weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas are another prime time for deals.

• Arizona –  It’s going to be hot, hot, hot. But you can snag a sweet deal at a 4 or 5-star resort. And let’s be real, you’re not swinging that in prime winter.

• Alaska – October, November and April are long, dark days in Alaska and some areas just shut down altogether. Plot our your itinerary accordingly and stick to major cities like Juneau and Anchorage to make sure you’re not charting a course for ghost towns. Tip for cruisers: early May and late summer/early fall is when you should look to set sail.

These were just a few examples, we offer trips to virtually any destination in the world! If you need suggestions on a trip, feel free to call and speak to one of our agents at 1-800-788-0829

20 Tips Before Traveling Internationally

If this is your first time traveling abroad, or maybe you just need a refresher here’s a list of 20 tips you should do or bring before your trip.

Check out our most popular vacations that include both Australia & New Zealand!

Australia & New Zealand in 19 days from $3,899

22 Day Australia & New Zealand from $5,399

ask a Travel Team Agent to look for the cheapest flights by calling 1-800-788-0829.

Security & Health

1. Check-in with your doctor and insurance carrier. Double check and make sure that you have all of the proper vaccinations and that you have renewed all essential prescriptions. Also, ask you medical insurance provider if your policy applies overseas for emergencies. If it doesn’t, and you want to add extra coverage, consider supplemental insurance.

2. Bring copies of your passport. If your passport gets stolen or lost you want to be sure that you can still get back into the country, or be able to prove your citizenship.

3. Leave a copy of your passport. For extra backup, leave a copy of your passport at home or with someone you trust. Consider making an electronic copy you can store in your email account as well.

4. Register with your embassy. If there’s a problem in the country, this will make it easier for your government to contact you and get you to safety.

Money

5. Look up the monetary conversion before you go. Finding out that one Danish Krone is equal to just 19 cents … bad surprise. Make sure you do your math before you travel to get a sense of where the conversion rate is at.

6. Make sure your credit card will work in the country you’re visiting. European banks have switched almost completely to the more secure chip-and-PIN technology, and fewer businesses abroad are accepting the outdated magnetic-strip cards.

7. Go to a bank or ATM in the country you’re visiting. The conversion centers in the airport or around the city tend to be huge rip-offs. You won’t get charged as many fees at the ATM or the bank, and the conversion will be exact.

8. Always have local cash. Not every place takes credit cards. Especially important places like trains or buses.

9. Call your bank or credit card provider. Sometimes banks think that fraud maybe occurring if transactions are suddenly happening in Bali when you’re from Jersey, and they will turn off your card as a security measure.

10. Check the country’s entrance/exit fees. Some countries require travelers to pay in order to enter or leave the country. These fees are not included in the price of your airline ticket, and can range from $25 to $200.

Local Research

11. Buy tickets now for places you know you want to visit or see. By buying in advance you’ll be able to skip more lines, and find more deals targeted toward you.

ask a Travel Team Agent to look for the cheapest flights by calling 1-800-788-0829.

12. Get guidebooks. Guidebooks usually include maps, key words or phrases, and give you enough detail on certain sites that you won’t need to purchase the pamphlet at the venue. And download apps before you travel. Avoid downloading charges from your wireless carrier and get your apps before you leave.

13. Research events going on while you’re there. This will help you make sure that you’re not missing be events going on in the city. Fun things like festivals, ceremonies and natural events. Also be sure to research as a few national dishes to try. You don’t want to leave the country without experiencing what its known for.

Electronics

14. Bring a charger adapter. Countries have different size plugs and voltage. So if you want to use your iPod, make sure you can charge it.

15. Check the voltage of your electronics. From my own experience I know that nothing is worse than having an adapter and still not being able to use a blow-dryer or a straightener because the voltage isn’t high enough for that country.

16. Activate your phone’s global capabilities. There’s usually a charge we doing this, but it is much less than the roaming charges you’ll get if you don’t.

17. Check your cellphone carrier to make sure you have internaitonal calling, if you don’t, consider purchasing a cheap international phone or calling card.

Luggage & packing

18. Pack an extra set of clothes in your carry-on bag. Don’t be one of those travelers decked out in J’adore Paris apparel because the airline lost your luggage and you have nothing else to wear.

19. To check a bag or not to check bag. Each airline has its own set of guidelines as to how many bags can be checked or carried on for free. Make sure to look up what your airline’s rules are to avoid any incremental fees.

20. Bring snacks. Traveling abroad is fun, but eating in a foreign country can sometimes become a task. Bring small snacks that will tide you over until you find that perfect restaurant or food cart.

After breakfast today, you will depart to Table Mountain, the most iconic landmark of South Africa.

Take a cable car ride up to the top of Table Mountain (weather dependent) to enjoy the magnificent view of the Cape. The main feature of Table Mountain is the level plateau from one side to the other, edged by impressive cliffs. The plateau flanked by Devil’s Peak and by Lion’s Head, form a dramatic backdrop to Cape Town. Table Mountain is often covered by clouds to form the so-called “table cloth” of cloud.

Take the cable car to the top of Table Mountain.

Not only is Table Mountain a scenic photograph background or a place from where you can take a breathtaking photos of Cape Town, there are about 2,200 species of plants and 1,470 floral species found there.

Penguins at Boulders Beach

After marveling at the awesome views, you will depart on a Cape Peninsula Tour, exclusively for our Lion World Travel guests.

On this tour you will see why the area earned the name of The Fairest Cape. Sit back and relax, as you drive along the exquisite stretch of coastline known as Millionaire’s Paradise – from Clifton to Camps Bay, to the exclusive beach hamlet of Llandudno – towards the charming working harbor of Hout Bay; if you choose, you can embark on an up-close-and-personal Seal Island cruise (your own account).

The tour then winds its way along the legendary Chapman’s Peak Drive, hugging the cliffs and relishing the breathtaking ocean views. After a stop for lunch (your own account), visit the wild and beautiful Cape of Good Hope Section of the Table Mountain National Park, an integral part of the world-renowned Cape Floral Kingdom. You will have the opportunity to ride the Flying Dutchman funicular (optional and own account) to the old lighthouse for awe-inspiring views!

Finally, the tour makes its way back along the coast towards the City, visiting the historic naval port of Simon’s Town and the endearing African penguin colony at Boulders Beach.
