US Airports Going More Automated

US Airports Going More Automated

Most major airports in the US already have automated self check-in kiosks, and self check baggage options. Last Friday the Department of Homeland Security announced plans to install 340 more kiosks in U.S. airports to automate passport inspections. The program will be added to 20 more airports by the end of next year.

Currently the Automated Passport Control (APC) program is active in 24 major U.S. airports, which include: Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta, Austin-Bergstrom, Boston Logan, Charlotte Douglas, Chicago Midway, Chicago O’Hare, Dallas/Fort Worth, Denver, Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood, Houston George Bush, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis-Saint Paul, New York – John F. Kennedy, Newark Liberty, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix Sky Harbor, Reno, San Diego, Seattle Sea-Tac, Tampa, and Washington Dulles. APC kiosks offer a cost effective way of reducing congestion at international arrivals. The kiosks expedite the entry process for U.S., Canadian and eligible Visa Waiver Program international travelers by providing an automated process through arrival inspection area. Travelers using the kiosks typically experience shorter wait times, less congestion, and faster processing.
