Pick the right car for your trip.
The biggest decision on your road trip is choosing what type of car you want to drive. If your are planning on driving in the mountains or during winter then you might want an SUV or 4 wheel drive, otherwise and you can probably do with a standard size car plus it saves money on gas.

Be prepared for different roads.
Many roads are asphalt but in rural areas you might encounter gravel or unsealed roads. Drive slower on these roads so you don’t get hit with stray rocks that can chip the windshield or body.
Take in the beauty, but don’t get distracted.
There are so many gorgeous places to take photos, you will probably want to hop out everywhere to take a snap. Make sure you don’t just pull over on major highways or anywhere; keep safe and make sure there is a safe place to pull over before taking a picture.

Outside of cities can sometimes be remote and may have ‘traffic’ from sheep or cows crossing the roads. Keep an eye out for these animal traffic jams.
