- Don’t Tip
Staff gets paid a fair minimum wage so they aren’t relying on tips. But you may want to leave a tip for excellent service.
- Don’t get Offended When Aussies Swear
Aussies swear a lot. Bugger and crap are also just normal day-to-day words. So are other words that you can probably guess. Prime Ministers have even said the f-bomb in public situations.
- Understand the Rules of the Road
In Australia they drive on the left. There are also a lot of rules that are strictly enforced. Don’t go over the speed limit either.
- Don’t Drink & Drive
This should be a given. The blood alcohol limit in Australia is 0.05%. Don’t even try to drink and drive, police set up random alcohol and drug testing called ‘booze buses’.
- Do Be Aware That Australia is Very BIG
Australia is the planet’s sixth largest country after Russia, Canada, China, the USA, and Brazil. Most cities are very spread out and it isn’t that easy to just drive from one city to the next, unless you want to drive for 10 hours.
- Do Drink Coffee
Australia has some of the world’s best coffee. The large multi-cultural population of Lebanese, Italians and Greeks influence the coffee.
- Do Try Vegemite
Vegemite is made from yeast and people put it on toast for a great snack.
- Do Wear Flip Flops
In Australia they are called thongs. Every one wears them. Just don’t wear to a restaurant or club.
- Don’t Pat a Koala
Holding Koalas is not permitted.
- Don’t Ever Throw a Cigarette Butt
Never do this. . Many of Australia’s bush fires are caused by this.
