You will experience traditional Maori culture, cruise Milford Sound, explore Franz Josef and view the beautiful Southern Alps as you travel across New Zealand by train! Day 1: Welcome to Auckland On arrival at Auckland Airport you will be transferred by private car to your hotel. This evening meet your Tour Director for a welcome reception and ‘highlight dinner’ at The Langham. Day 2: Auckland Start the day with a sightseeing tour then cruise on Waitemata Harbour. Breakfast included Day 3: Auckland – Rotorua Tour the amazing Glow Worm Grotto by boat with a local guide. From here your journey continues to Rotorua, where you’ll visit Te Puia. A local Maori guide will escort you through the Whakarewarewa Thermal Reserve. ‘You’re invited’ to the Tamaki Maori Marae for a very personal and exclusive cultural evening. Enjoy a Maori Hangi feast with local wine and a concert in their private dining room. Day 4: Rotorua – Christchurch Visit Rainbow Springs Nature Park. You may even spot a kiwi! Next up is the Agrodome Sheep Show, the multi-award-winning stage show, which offers an insight into agriculture in New Zealand. In the afternoon you’ll fly to Christchurch (airfare is not included and must be booked by you or your travel agent). Day 5: Christchurch – Franz Josef Journey on the TranzAlpine train through the Southern Alps to Arthur’s Pass. At Hokitika visit a New Zealand greenstone (jade) factory for a jewelry demonstration. Next you’ll arrive at Franz Josef Glacier. Day 6: Franz Josef – Queenstown Drive over the Haast Pass, past Thunder Creek Falls, Lakes Wanaka, Hawea and Dunstan. Enjoy the tastes of delicious stone fruit at Cromwell – the stone fruit capital. Next you’ll visit historic gold mining Arrowtown on the Arrow River, before arriving in Queenstown, where an orientation tour completes your day. Day 7: Milford Sound Journey over the Devil’s Staircase along the shores of Lake Wakatipu to Te Anau and its lake, the largest in the South Island. Travel through the rainforest of World Heritage Fiordland National Park, sighting glaciers and mountain ranges. Drive through the hand-hewn Homer Tunnel to the numerous photo opportunities afforded by the Mirror Lake, Pop’s Lookout, Cleddau Valley and the Chasm, Mitre Peak and Bowen Falls before reaching Milford Sound. Enjoy lunch while you cruise on this wonder of nature. Breakfast & Lunch included Day 8: Queenstown Included Choice Today choose one from a range of Included Choice sightseeing experiences. Ride the Shotover Jet, join a wine tour, play a round of golf, take a 4WD tour, relax with a spa treatment or enjoy dinner at the Skyline Restaurant. Breakfast included Day 9: Queenstown – Christchurch Be awestruck by the alpine beauty of Mt. Cook National Park. Later, continue to Lakes Pukaki and Tekapo, where you’ll stop to view the Church of the Good Shepherd. ‘You’re invited’ to Morelea Farm, home of Angie and Stan Taylor, to enjoy a barbecue lunch in their 240 hectare garden and to gain insight into farm life. Travel over the Canterbury Plains to Christchurch. Join your Tour Director and new-found friends this evening for a farewell dinner.
