Why Choose Cook Islands for Your Destination Wedding
With its close proximity, easy and cheap flights from our east coast, stunning beaches and warm, friendly locals, it’s no wonder Australian couples have adopted the Cook Islands as a favorite wedding destination. Are you thinking of tying the knot in this incredible location? Here are all the basics you need to know.
Why should I choose Cook Islands for my wedding?
Described as a beach lover’s paradise, the 15 islands are scattered across millions of square kilometers of crystal-clear ocean – halfway between New Zealand and Hawaii. Barefoot beach ceremony or church wedding in one of the island’s historic limestone churches, rest easy that this backdrop will not disappoint. Sport Illustrated chose this destination for their recent photo shoot, so to say this destination is a photographer’s dream is probably an understatement.
Rarotonga is the main island and where the international airport is located. It has a plethora of stunning beach resorts, art galleries, markets, and is a great place to lap up the local culture. Aitutaki is about the most peaceful spot you could hope to find to don a snorkeling mask. These two islands are the most popular for travelers and weddings.
How can I adopt the Cook Islands’ culture in my ceremony?
Cook Islanders are natural-born performers, so traditional song and dance will add an island touch to your ceremony. Traditionally, a groom wears a tropical floral nek ei around his neck, and the bride a head ei (crown).
