Consider the size of Australia
Australia is a huge country that is so vast, full of different cities, climates, forests, beaches and more; don’t make the mistake of trying to see the entire country in one trip. A good rule of thumb is to decide what specific things you want to see and experience, and plan an itinerary around that. Trying to see the entire country will be nearly impossible, unless you are spending a good 6 months traveling.
Instead, decide what kind of vacation you want. Ask yourself these questions:
What are your interests?
Are you traveling with kids?
Do you want a city vacation, an outback adventure?
When do you want to travel?
#1 What do you want to see & do in Australia
Think about what you want to experience. Do you want to go snorkeling, diving and see the beaches? Do you want to focus on some cities? Or are you wanting an adventure vacation full of wildlife and nature?
#2 When do you want to visit?
Time of year is important as far as when is a good time to visit. Certain areas are better to visit depending on time of year. Sydney can be visited year round. During the summer, the Northern Australia areas, such as Darwin area is very hot and wet. Instead the best time to visit is from May – October. Southern Australia such as areas like Melbourne, Adelaide, and Kangaroo Island are great to visit during the warmer months. Tasmania is also great to visit in the summer. Queensland areas like Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef are warm all year long, but summer is the wet season. Visiting South Western Australia (Perth) is best visited during spring or autumn.
The seasons are reversed as to the seasons in the Northern hemisphere, so keep that in mind. Summer is December to February, ,March to May is fall, June to August is winter and Spring runs from September – November.
#3 How much time do you need to visit?
Because of the vast size of Australia, be selective about where you are visiting with the time you have planned to visit. You will spend a lot of time driving if you choose to travel by car; if you want to city-hop, flying is a good option to cover large areas and get to your next destination. A good rule of thumb is to spend at least 2 weeks visiting Australia and focus on one or a few areas.
#4 Places that you shouldn’t miss
When traveling to Australia, there are many places that deserve visits. You must see Sydney, Great Barrier Reef, Uluru and the Great Ocean Road. Since these places are far from each other, you probably should pick 2 or 3 spots to visit, rather than trying to visit all of these places so you can have time to experience what Australia has to offer.
In summary, to plan a fantastic trip to Australia, the four key points you should address in planning your trip, is What, when, how long and where. Once you have answered these then the rest of the trip is easy. Remember, travel team agents specialize in Australia vacations, escorted, independent, custom-tailor made vacations, from tours, finding the perfect hotels, airfare and more!
