Staying Fit On a River Cruise

Staying Fit On a River Cruise

Are you getting ready to head out on a gorgeous getaway on a river cruise full of breathtaking sights and authentic cuisine? Do you want some tips on how to stay healthy and fit while on a River Cruise? Read on for these useful tips to keep you active during a River Cruise…

1  Quick workouts add up

If you are used to spending 45 minutes or an hour at the gym 4 times a week, there isn’t a need to stress if you don’t have the time to spend this much time. There are plenty of exercises and workouts you can do with little time and equipment in your own room.

Tip: Start your morning with 5 minutes of deep breathing and a quick 20 minute total body workout. Do a short, high intensity workout; start by jogging in place, do some jumping jacks, move to push ups, squats, kick backs, and keep rotating exercises to get a good sweat and pump. Another great on the go workout is to use a jump rope, this takes hardly any equipment or space, just a little coordination, you can do this without a rope too.

2.  Get Moving Outdoors

A great thing about River Cruises is you get to visit the most gorgeous landscapes along the river and also get a chance to get out. When you dock, go for a bike ride. Most River Cruises ships have onboard bikes. If not, find out a local spot you can rent a bike from and go explore for a few hours.

Another great activity that has become increasingly popular is Stand Up Paddling (SUP). You can basically SUP anywhere there is calm water and the river is a great place to do so. Although bike rental places might be easier to access, don’t be afraid to do some research and ask where you can find a place to do stand up paddling. It’s so much fun, much easier than it looks but a great workout.

3.    Use the Facilities on The Boat

The boat may have a gym or a pool that you can use. If you have access to a gym on board, do exercises that target more than one muscle group at a time; this way you can workout quickly and efficiently. Some examples are: squat with biceps curl, biceps curl-to-shoulder press & lunge-to-shoulder press.

Maybe you want to go into the pool for a dip, swim some laps or maybe even some water aerobics. All of these are great workouts either on the go or at home, and easy on the joints.

5       Stay Hydrated

This is probably the biggest tip; drink enough water! It can be really easy to remember to drink enough water when at home or at the office when it is part of the routine. But oftentimes, we can forget to drink enough water when on vacation (while not forgetting to hydrate with stiffer beverages). If you are going to drink wine, beer or alcohol make sure you drink plenty of water during your vacation. This keeps you hydrated and your metabolism functioning so you get the most out of your experience.
