Phillip Island is visited by approximately 3.5 million people annually, since it is located just 90 minutes from Melbourne, and offers swimming beaches, surfing beaches, fishing and the opportunity to see wildlife in their natural habitat.

Some of the top attractions include:

Phillip Island Nature Park is home to the world famous Penguin Parade. Here one can watch the penguins make their way from the sea back to the burrows every evening. Phillip Island Nature Park is also where the Koala Conservation Center can be found.

Another popular tourist attraction is the Seal Rocks, which host the largest colony of fur seals in Australia (up to 16,000).

The Wild Life Park is a place where wallabies and kangaroos roam freely amongst the visitors and can be fed by hand. The Wild Life Park hosts over 300 animals (mostly native Australian species). These include Wombats, Koalas, Kangaroos, Tasmanian Devils, various parrots and birds of prey, snakes and reptiles.

The island is also recognised as having some of the most consistently reliable and varied surf conditions in the country. The island has even hosted various surf events in the past, such as the Rip Curl Pro in 2005 and the Roxy Pro Women's Surfing Festival.

Phillip Island is steeped in the history of Australian motor racing, and hosts the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix annually.

Beaches:

Much of Phillip Islands 60 miles of coastline offers wonderful surf and swimming beaches. Most of the northern beaches, especially Cowes' main beach and the one east of Erehwon Point are fairly shallow at low tide, and suitable for families and small children. Another popular beach is found in Ventnor, at the end of Ventnor Beach Road.

Surfers can catch a wave just about anytime, regardless of wind direction or swell, due to the variety of the island's surf beaches. Note however that strong rips can occur, especially at Smiths Beach and Woolamai.

Weather:

Phillip Island experiences milder weather than Melbourne and is tempered by ocean breezes. The average daily maximum temperature for February is 76°F, while for July it is 56°F. The average annual rainfall is 30 in, with June being the wettest month 3.5 in.
